The sessions start at 9.30am and finish at 12.30pm, attendance for pupils can be arranged using a form from their Headteacher or  a telephone call to Mrs Bernadette McGoff on 0161 226 3323 with their choices.

Bedians visited Manchester Grammar School to listen to distinguished Old Bedian, Professor Sir Ian Kershaw talk on ‘Hitler: a weak dictator?’ This was the most recent of a number of lectures attended by historians who have also heard Michael Wood talking on Shakespeare and David Starkey addressing members of the Portico Library on Monarchy in England. The next lecture to be attended will be with  Professor Nick Higham on the somewhat earlier period ‘The Norman Conquest’. Professor Kershaw gave a lecture at St Bede’s three years ago.

The new options at AS have already begun well with two good sized groups for Music Technology and Accounting.  In addition, a very healthy number of students are studying for AS Critical Thinking under the guidance of Mrs Hazell and Mrs Norton.  This course will help prepare students for writing their exam papers in a range of subjects as well as giving them a more discriminating way of reading and writing generally.

We are delighted with this year’s A Level examination results.

The Upper 6th of 119 students achieved a 100% pass rate A to E with almost 70% of the grades at A and B. The eight studnets holding offers from Oxford and Cambridge all secured their places for entry this October. Two students, Jenny from Monton nr Eccles and Laura from Oldham, obtained five A grades, while four students obtained AAAA and a further 19 secured three As. It is also worth pointing out that half of the year group obtained a minimum standard of BBB.
