Charity Cycle to Lourdes
485 Mile Charity Bike Ride to Lourdes
As you know, every year throughout Lent the St Bede’s Charity Committee coordinates a variety of activities to raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves. Last year, the hard work of both students and staff raised up to £40,000 which was then shared between charities such as Cornerstone, Francis House Hospice and the Contact Hostel in Chorlton to name but a few. This year our sights are set even higher.
Pilgrims have been travelling to Lourdes since 1858, with this year being the 150th anniversary of the first apparition to St Bernadette. Messrs Bargery, Dumbill, Fallon, Kearney, Lalley and Devitt intend to mark the occasion with a pilgrimage during the Easter holidays, taking on the hardship of a long-distance cycle and delivering petitions to the site from friends and friends of the school. We will set off from St Malo in Brittany and travel the 485 miles to the Pyrennees by bike.
All expenses incurred during the trip will be paid for by the cyclists, so every penny donated will go straight to the College’s chosen charities, many of which are based here in Manchester. We would be extremely grateful if you would visit www.justgiving.com/bedesbikeride to make a donation to our cause. Alternatively, you can contact Mrs Margaret Duff, the Headmaster’s secretary for further details if you or your business would be interested in sponsoring us.
We will also be collecting petitions for Lourdes in the school’s main office. If you would like us to take a petition for you, simply send it in a sealed envelope marked ‘Lourdes Petitions’ before our departure on March 18th.
