RIP Des Pastore MBE

RIP – Mr Des Pastore , aged 97. Des, a former RAF pilot, who flew hurricanes  during WWII was one of the thousands who escaped from Singapore before it fell to the Japanese in 1942. Des was a pupil and teacher at St Bede’s. He founded the Old Bedians Sports Centre in Didsbury in 1954 and continued to run it for 58 years. As a young player he set a try-scoring record for Sale as a rugby star, 68 tries scored in a season, and continued to play rugby until he was 93. He was awarded the MBE at the age of 92, whilst still playing and the Queen said he was a remarkable man! His funeral is at the Manchester Crematorium (no Mass) on Thursday 26 January at 12 noon.
