Languages Debate Win

On Saturday 5th November, four upper-sixth linguists took part in the annual North West MFL debating competition at Cheadle Hulme School. Representing the Spanish Department were Helen Shires and Olivia Silcock and for French, Sarah Lopeman and Brandon Walsh–Alexander.  Both groups had to debate difficult topics, such as ‘society is to blame for the looters in England’ and ‘religion makes good men evil’  – tricky in English but even more impressive in another language!  They faced fierce competition from other schools but all four gave outstanding performances, resulting in an overall win for Helen and Olivia, who easily defeated Kings School Macclesfield in the final, while Brandon and Sarah were runners up, only narrowly beaten into second place by Altrincham Boys’ Grammar School.
