24 year old Katherine Conroy, a former student at St Bede’s College in Manchester, is currently starring in a new TV series about the life of Junior Doctors on BBC Three. She has just finished her six year degree as a Cambridge graduate, where she obtained the Cambridge Medical Prize for Psychiatry. The series is called Junior Doctors – Your Life In Their Hands and it follows the work of seven recently qualified junior doctors as they hit the wards of the Royal Victoria Infirmary and The General, in Newcastle.
“It was an interesting experience. I don’t really like watching myself on the television but I thought it was a good opportunity to show people what hospitals are really like and what a good job the NHS does. I was quite self-conscious having the cameras there but we all got used to it and I think a lot of the patients enjoyed the novelty!. My role in the surgical unit did not put me off specialising in that area and I am currently working towards my surgical exams.”
