LIFE and the EARTH: interlocking histories by Prof. Aubrey Manning
13th December 7:30pm Academic Hall
St Bede’s College Geology Society hosted a wonderful lecture given by Professor Aubrey Manning.
In this year’s lecture we heard the fascinating story of the unique interactions between our planet and the origins and evolution of life from very early in the formation of the solar system. The history of life has been turbulent but until now it has always recovered in some modified form from the stresses which Earth’s dynamic processes have thrown at it. Many fascinating geological and biological questions remain. However, it is now clear that the activities of one species are beginning to affect Earth as a whole. We need to develop a real understanding of our relationship to the planet which supports us if we are to have a long-term future.
Thank you to the St Bede’s College Geological Society for oganising this event. Matthew, Tom, Isaac, Alfred and Eden organisied the event.
We are grateful to Professor Maning for travelling from Edinburgh to be with us at our annual lecture and for his facinating discourse.
