Carol Service

The College started a new tradition this year by holding its annual Advent service for the Upper School and Sixth Form at the nearby English Martyrs Parish Church in Whalley Range.

Father Marlor, the Parish Priest, was delighted to allow the College to celebrate this important time in the Church’s calendar at English Martyrs. Headmaster, Michael Barber, explained that College Hall and Chapel were not big enough to allow the whole school to worship together. English Martyrs is a wonderful setting, a very beautiful Parish Church with many intricate and interesting stained glass windows. Because of Fr Marlor’s generosity, the senior pupils in the College were able to come together as a community to prepare for the celebration of the coming of Christ. With the continued support of Fr Marlor, we hope to be able to continue this wonderful celebration during the years ahead.

The Ceremony, including exposition of The Blessed Sacrament, consisted of Five Lessons, read by students from the College, interspersed with specialist Choral Carols and Some superb community singing by the pupils who made up the congregation. The Gospel of St John was read by Fr Dearman to conclude before raising the roof with “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”.
