St Bede’s Cricketer receives second Civic Award from Mayor

Connor Hey

Fourteen year old St Bede’s student, Connor from Royton, has just received his second annual FOSSA (Federation of Oldham Sports & Social Association) sports award from the Lord Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Shoab Akhtar.

He received the award in a civic reception at Oldham Town Hall for being one of only two students from Oldham to represent Lancashire at cricket.  Connor has been playing for his county from the age of twelve.  The all rounder has already scored a fifty for the county and taken five wickets in one match for Royton Cricket Club, where he is one of the youngest players to play on the adult 1st XI team.

When asked how he felt about winning the award, Connor said, “I was really pleased to win the award for the second time and very pleased to be representing Oldham for Lancashire. I am only the second youngest person to represent Oldham in the Lancashire team.  My ambition is to play cricket professionally as a career, but if I do not make it into the Academy I hope to stay on at St Bede’s and go into medicine.”
