St Bede’s College staged its annual Sports Day in Longford Park Athletics Stadium in Stretford on Wednesday 24 June 2009. This was the first time in many years that the event had been held outside of the College grounds.
The students were driven to the stadium in a convoy of coaches and enjoyed a highly competitive fixture in glorious sunshine. The purpose built Athletics Stadium has its own seated viewing stands, running track and field facilities; Winning competitors were awarded their medals by Michael Barber, the Headmaster at the College, Monsignor Quinlan, the Chair of Governors and fellow governor, Tony Keegan.
Michael Barber, when asked to describe his thoughts about the event said, “It was a fantastic day, everyone really enjoyed it. All the competitors were given a tremendous amount of support and encouragement from their fellow pupils and parents who came along to join in the historic occasion. The cheers from the crowd were as strong for the winners as they were for those who finished in later positions. It now looks set to be an annual event at the stadium and I would like to thank all the staff and parents who helped support this magnificent occasion.”
