Anna Friel, the award winning Hollywood actress, spent the day at St Bede’s College filming a new series for the BBC. She is pictured here with first year students Tom Hadley, James Ward Mallinson, Michaela Gillespie and Hannah Driscoll. The students were filmed as extras in the production of and episode of the award winning The Street series which is due for release in the autumn.
The actress who was born in Rochdale, but who is now living in Los Angeles, was playing the role of a mother who was desperate to get her children into the fictitious St Peter’s Grammar School.
The thirty two year old actress has won a whole host of awards for her acting career. These included the TV Times Best Actress award, TV Quick magazine Best newcomer, Drama Desk Award and she was nominated twice in the 2008 Golden Globe Awards for her work in Pushing Daises.
James Ward Mallinson said, “It was a really good experience and I would do it all again if I could. It’s given me the acting bug. Anna seemed really nice and it was very special to have a picture taken with a famous actress.”
This is not the first time that the College has been used as a film location for major TV dramas. It has also been used in the award-winning Clocking Off series and Granada TV’s world famous Coronation Street has also been filmed there.
