Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition

35 pupils, ranging from U4 to L6, and 12 staff took part in the first St Bede’s practice D of E expedition. The pupils arrived at Buxton Train Station on Saturday morning and walked to Shallow Grange Camp Site, via different routes and with teachers to help guide them. All arrived safely. Tents were erected and food cooked. The staff had a banquet, courtesy of Mrs Earles and Miss Scialpi.
On Sunday, the pupils walked back to Buxton in their groups, unaccompanied, with the staff meeting them at various checkpoints on the way. The first groups to arrive caught the 2.30pm train back to Manchester. The last ones caught the 4.30pm.
A good time was had by all.
Thank you to Mr Ashton, the Duke of Edinburgh assessor from Manchester Youth services for his help and encouragement.
Also, thanks to all the staff who helped and guided the pupils so well.
