The Headmaster writes:
Helping the less advantaged is integral to St Bede’s as an avowedly Christian community.
This year over £40,000 has been raised and it has been allocated to the following projects:
(a) The Holy Ghost Fathers’ Street Children’s Mission,
Sao Paolo, Brazil, run by Fr Pat Clarke £ 6,000
(b) The Love of Christ Ministry, Thembalihe
South Africa, catering for orphans with HIV/AIDS £14,000
(c) Francis House, Didsbury £ 4,500
(d) Cornerstone, Moss Side £ 3,000
(e) School under the tree in Ethiopia £ 1,000
(f) Ultrasound scanner for the Posta Medica, a mission hospital in £ 5,000
Lima, Peru
(g) St Ann’s Hospice £ 2,500
(h) Contact Hostel in Whalley Range for girls who, for various reasons, £ 2,500
are no longer welcome in their own homes
(i) St Joseph’s Penny for the Salford Diocesan Rescue Society £ 1,500
The generosity of spirit underpinning this magnificent charitable fundraising has been consistent during my time as Headmaster. It crystallises the positive Catholic action which galvanises pupils as they try to enhance the lives of less fortunate people, both in Manchester and in far away places. Whatever else we may or may not do St Bede’s College tries to make a difference to the lives of the weak and the
disadvantaged. In so doing, we are serving Almighty God and fulfilling our mission as a credibly Catholic school.
