Charitable Giving
Helping the less advantaged is integral to St Bede’s as a Christian community. Last year we raised £40,000 and it has been allocated to the following projects:
| a) The Holy Ghost Fathers’ Street Children’s Mission, Sao Paolo, Brazil, run by Fr Pat Clarke | £6,000 |
| (b) The Tender Love of Christ Ministry, Thembalihe South Africa, catering for orphans with HIV/AIDS | £14,000 |
| (c) Francis House, Didsbury | £4,500 |
| (d) Cornerstone, Moss Side | £3,000 |
| (e) School under the tree in Ethiopia | £1,000 |
| (f) Ultrasound scanner for the Posta Medica, a mission hospital in Lima, Peru | £5,000 |
| (g) St Ann’’s Hospice | £2,500 |
| (h) Contact Hostel in Whalley Range for girls who, for various reasons, are no longer welcome in their own homes | £2,500 |
| (i) St Joseph’’s Penny for the Salford Diocesan Rescue Society | £1,500 |
The generosity of spirit underpinning this magnificent charitable fundraising has been consistent over many years. It crystallises the positive Catholic action which galvanises pupils as they try to enhance the lives of less fortunate people, both in Manchester and in far away places. Whatever else we may or may not do St Bede’s College tries to make a difference to the lives of the weak and the disadvantaged. In so doing, we are serving Almighty God and fulfilling our mission.
We remeber the words of the Gospel:
“I was hungry and you gave me food, thirsty and you gave me drink, without clothes and you clothed me, sick and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me”, Matthew 25:35-36.
