At St Bede’s we have a professional dress code for Sixth Formers which we believe promotes a serious working atmosphere.
The purpose of the following guidelines is to ensure smartness, neatness and attire that is suitable for wear in a College proud of the image it projects. There is much choice available in colours and styles but you are asked to co-operate fully in the following. If you are unsure about the suitability of an item of clothing, consider whether you would wear it to a formal interview.
Appropriate wear for girls
- Skirt and blouse, or dress accompanied by a conventional jacket. Colours should be restrained.
OR - Tailored trouser suits in the following colours only: black, navy-blue, brown, grey. Pinstripes are allowed.
- Shoes should have sensible heels. No boots are to be worn.
- Jewellery and make-up should be discreet.
- Coats should be formal.
Students must not wear:
- low cut tops
- garments showing the midriff
- split and/or short skirts
- anything that we deem to be revealing
The approved wear for boys in the Sixth Form at St Bede’s College is as follows:

- A suit or conventional jacket and trousers.
- Shirt with collar.
- College Sixth Form tie.
- Pullover, when necessary, which does not obscure the tie.
- Jeans, cord trousers, training shoes and jewellery are prohibited.
Hair must be tidy and of conventional length. Bizarre styles will not be accepted. The definition of “bizarre” and “conventional” will be provided by the Head of Sixth Form.
The Headmaster and Heads of Year reserve the right to send home any pupil whose appearance does not conform to College regulations.
